The Mankato East softball team opened its season with an impressive 6-1 Big 9 win over Northfield Monday at the MSU Dome.
It was a complete game effort by the Cougars' lineup, with all players up and down adding to the scoring effort.
Trailing 1-0 heading to the bottom of the 4th, the Cougars used small ball: a squeeze, stolen bases and bunts to take the lead for good.
Emily Hacker had 2 RBIs, while Hailey Petzel and Tiegan Richards also had an RBI.
Kylinn Stangl roped an RBI triple while also pitching a complete game, allowing one earned run on four hits to go along with nine strikeouts.
